Acid base Titration

Weak Acids & Bases

WEAK ACID

Weak acid produce fewer ions and thus cannot conduct electricity as efficiently as strong acids.
Some common weak acids are acetic acid  and hydrofruoric acid, hydrocyanic acid, carbonic acid and boric acid.
A weak acid only partially dissociates in water to give H+ and the anion. Examples of weak acids include hydrofluoric acid, HF, and acetic acid, CH3COOH.

WEAK BASE

A weak base ionizes only partially in dilute aqueous solution to form the conjugate acid of
the base and hydroxide ion.
Examples of weak bases include ammonia, NH3, and diethylamine, (CH3CH2)2NH.

  • Most weak bases are anions of weak acids.
  • Weak bases do not furnish OH- ions by dissociation. Instead, they react with water to generate OH- ions.
